UCR TFDP Professor turning his play into movie

In All, Digital Production, Film & Video, Theatre by Richard Gonzales

Charles Evered, a playwriting professor at University of California, Riverside, will write and direct the film adaptation of his play “Class” for Wonderstar Productions.

The play tells the life-changing story of Sarah, a young Hollywood starlet working with Elliot, a renowned acting coach in New York City.

“Class” premiered in 2010 at the Cape May Stage in New Jersey. The two-actor play has since been produced on both coasts, most recently at the Falcon Theatre in Los Angeles. Reviewers have hailed “Class” as “a flawless experience” and “thoroughly absorbing entertainment.”

Evered, 52, has written screenplays and teleplays for studios such as Universal Pictures, NBC, DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures. He wrote and directed the feature film, “Adopt a Sailor,” starring Peter Coyote and Bebe Neuwirth. The movie was shown at more than 20 national and international film festivals and premiered on Showtime.

“A Thousand Cuts,” his second feature film as a director, starred Academy Award nominee Michael O’Keefe. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films nominated the work for a Saturn Award.
