Acting and Devising Multimedia Performance

 A workshop on using the voice, body, and imagination for creating characters for live and on-camera performance.  Participants will be taken through several exercises and improvisations and will do work on monologues and scenes.  The second half of the session will be an introductory guide to devising original work based on literary and multimedia cultural inspirations. 

Audition Workshop

 A workshop on the basics of preparing for a live and on-camera audition.  Tips and techniques will be given for song and monologue auditions as well as working with sides and cold readings. Participants who want coaching on individual audition songs may be accommodated.

The workshops are funded by a Faculty Instructional Innovation Grant, and they will be led by Chari Arespacochaga, a director, performer, and educator. Chari Arespacochaga has more than twenty years of professional experience spanning from the Philippines to Canada to the United States. She earned her MFA in directing from the University of Victoria, and she has served as Associate Director for Broadway Asia’s tour Cinderella and Venus in Fur. Her directing credits include Altar Boyz, Spring Awakening The Musical, Legally Blonde, Aida, The Little Mermaid, The Full Monty, Disney’s Tarzan, and Rock of Ages. Chari most recently directed The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in the Department of Theatre, Film & Digital Production at UCR.
