39th College Television Awards Updated Categories

In All by Richard Gonzales

This year, the Television Academy Foundation has made some changes to the College Television Awards in order to align them more closely with Emmy® Awards categories and the current nature of television. You’ll find that several of the genre categories are now genre series categories – Drama has become Drama Series, Comedy has become Comedy Series, and so on.

What does this mean for student filmmakers?

Students who have made short films are still welcome to submit! However, we encourage students to imagine how they might extend their films into series. As part of each program submission, we ask that students submit synopses for two additional episodes in the series. These are synopses only – students are not required to produce these additional episodes, nor even have the intention of producing them. The judges want to see where students would take their stories.

For more information, including official rules, please visit the official College Television Awards website here. Students can also sign up here to have helpful updates and reminders sent directly to their inboxes.
