Much of Kate’s work, both non-fiction and playwriting, is concerned with community. In 2014, her play Sumi’s House, based on the historical account of Riverside’s Harada family, was produced twice. Another Riverside-based original play, Orange Grove, was produced at UCR in 2005 and an excerpt of it was published last year in the anthology Orangelandia: The Literature of Inland Citrus (2014). Kate’s work for young audiences has toured many times as part of UCR’s Gluck program. In addition, her plays have appeared at the Los Angeles Theatre Center, Stella Adler Theatre, and Ensemble Studio Theatre. An accomplished actress, she has also appeared in numerous stage productions. Kate teaches playwriting at UCR.
