Chari Arespacochaga is a director for theater, film, multimedia, special events and concerts; and theater educator around the world.

Chari’s theatrical direction credits include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (University of California), Amadeus and Stupid Kids (Phoenix Theatre, Victoria), 9 Minutes (for PopUP Theatrics NYC), Rock of Ages, The Full Monty, Disney’s Tarzan, Spring Awakening, Legally Blonde, Altar Boyz, Into The Woods, among others.  She has also co-directed productions of Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, and Avenue Q.

 She has created musical staging for Next To Normal, A Little Night Music, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Tick… Tick… Boom! 

 Chari has also served as SDCF Directing Observer to Susan Stroman in the Vineyard Theatre’s production of Dot, and to Jeff Whiting in NYMF’s Single Wide.  She has served as Associate Director to Loch Lomond (Dir:  Jeff Whiting for Hard G Productions, NY), Venus In Fur (Dir:  Michael Shamata, Belfry Theatre), The Skin of Our Teeth (Dir:  Linda Hardy, Phoenix Theatre), In The Heights (Dir:  Bobby Garcia, Atlantis Productions) and on the Asian Tour of Cinderella (Dir:  Bobby Garcia, Broadway Asia).

A Director for Creative Development for S.T.R.O.N.G. Edutainment, she is in the process of adapting a series of stories about a culturally diverse group of princesses/superheroines called the Guardian Princesses into musicals for young audiences.  These musicals will be created using various creative methodologies and seek to incorporate multimedia and a variety of theatrical techniques and devices from the different cultures and traditions represented in the stories.

Chari has served as writer and director for various concerts, corporate industrials and special events in the Philippines, Asia and Australia.

She is a member of  the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation and alumni of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, as well as a recipient of Arts Bursaries and Fellowships from the Matoto Arts Fund, among others.
